The Mimosa Festival is a celebratory programme designed to showcase the work of professional Disabled artists in the North East region. It is also designed to be a catalyst for change, effecting long term impact, with a significant emphasis on the cultural re-positioning of the status of Disabled People in the arts in the North East.

This inaugural festival will demonstrate the potential for the Mimosa Festival to become a fixture in the North East arts calendar with a national and international reputation. Given that Disabled People make up 25% of the population of the North East, Mimosa will raise the voices of Disabled artists in the region with the opportunity to debate and discuss some of the key issues facing the development of our sector. Whilst the programme welcomes everyone, we do also aim to support and encourage Disabled people as audiences.

The idea for the Mimosa Festival has grown from our work following a Symposium held by arcadea, then NorDAF, in 2004 and our work in partnership with 120 Disabled artists since then and which has firmly established the beginnings of our growing reputation as a leading, innovative organisation with vision.

We’re really excited about the programme and we hope you are too . . . please take this chance to see as much new work as possible and be a part of it.

There is an education programme attached to the festival consisting of a number of master classes and workshops.
