| Ian first became interested in children's book illustration while studying illustration at college. Whilst researching the subject he was drawn to the rich and diverse range of imagery. He has also completed courses in graphic design, computer applications in art and design and classical animation. The work produced on these courses has combined to strongly influence his style of work. Ian enjoys working in a wide range of media including acrylics, watercolours, pen and ink, and markers, often combining several media and techniques in a single piece. Ian's influences include the illustrators Tony Blundell, Chris Russell and Satashi Katamura, but is inspired by many other artists and their work. Ian has chosen children's book illusration as his prefered area because he feels it is a very satisfying and rewarding field of illustration. He is also attracted to the wide spectrum of subject matter and content, and aims to produce work capable of capturing and inpsiring a child's imagination. Ian hopes to go on to make a career as a freelance chidren's book illustrator and is currently working on his portfolio while he completes a course in children's book illustration with the London Art College. |
